Greetings Friends!
Come join us Sunday Feb 5th 2012 for our Opening Ceremony & Into to Practice !
Underdog Zendo is an emerging Sangha of open-minded folks coming together to practice zazen. We are dedicated to providing a positive space for all those interested in the path of enlightenment & the practice of Zen Buddhism. Starting next month Underdog Zendo will be holding weekly practice every Sunday 4-6pm. All welcome.
Feb 5th 2012 marks the official beginning of a very special group & you are invited to come out to join us for our Opening Practice Service for UNDERDOG ZENDO weekly zen practice group.

This Special Service will include:
- Orientation
- Opening Special Ceremony Sutra Chants
- Zazen Instruction
- 16 mins zazen (silent seated zen meditation)
- Kinhin (walking zen meditation)
- 16 mins zazen (silent seated zen meditation)
- Sutra Chants
- Closing Text
- Q & A
- Tea time*
Please wear comfortable loose cloths for seated meditation.
Standard Services will be a 5-10$ suggested donation. This donation will help us cover costs such as overhead for the wonderful space, get needed supplies, & widen the Sangha.

Greets wonderful Friends of the Dharma*
I am writing to let friends know about some very wonderful news.
In June 2011, I was formally authorized as a Practice Leader in the tradition of Zen Buddhism by Rev. Jay Rinsen Weik Senior Dharma Teacher of the Toledo Zen Center/Toledo Buddhist Temple & The Drinking Gourd Institute.
Following this development, I have been working to found a unique Zen Practice Group in Chicago called UNDERDOG ZENDO*
This group is now in its final stages of development & will be in full-swing we hope in February*
We will be holding service at a wonderful & down to earth space called Urban Lotus Yoga Studio located on the West Side of Chicago.

A weekly Practice Service will be held Every Sunday
4-6 pm – $5-10 suggested donation
Regular Service Schedule will look something like this:
Opening sutra chants (Wisdom Heart Sutra)
Introductions
Beginning meditation instructions
30 mins zazen (seated zen meditation)
5 mins kinhin (walking zen meditation)
30 mins zazen (seated zen meditation)
Closing sutra chants (various)
*Share tea
Other activates will include such things as:
-Sangha road trips to attend Zen Retreats in Toledo with TZC/TBT & the Drinking Gourd Institute
-Special Services including visits, dharma talks, & Dokusan (private interviews) from Rev. Jay Rinsen Weik
-Intensified practice time! Full day of zazen practice
-We plan to be involved as an organized effort with MedMob Chicago
-other good stuff… who knows! :)

2 choices….
Posted by: | CommentsEach moment we are faced with 2 basic choices… the road of ignorance or the road of wisdom. One direction leads to suffering & one direction leads to liberation. No matter how isolated we think our actions are, life is continually telling us otherwise & when we apply mindfulness we see that all our lives are interconnected. This means our actions effect each-other. So for the sake of all of us, watch where you step my friends… my heart is with you!
These Dark & Hungry Streets

or maybe I would have something shiny I could point at
to validate my existence in accordance with this society I inhabit.
But like the sun I can not only shine one direction.
Look at all the miserable people…
& so day & night where do you remain?
Have you not noticed, truth can not be contrived?
& so I simply keep my window open.
We all make our choices friend!
Would I dare sacrifice one ray of light for a lifetime of dark & hungry self-gain?
